In the examples above, you may have noticed that many of the items have either a checkmark (
) or a red X (
) associated with it. The checkmark indicates that the associated item is Active, and the red X indicates that the associated item is Inactive.
The implication of whether an item is Active or Inactive depends on the item. For example, a Student Account that is Inactive will not appear in the list of students for whom you can generate reports – although it is still possible to collect data for that student and complete a HotSync operation with that student’s Palm handheld. A Target that is Inactive will not appear on a Palm handheld (after a HotSync) – although it is still possible for Inactive Targets to appear in reports.
Table 1.1 lists the kinds of items that can be set to Inactive, the method for switching them between Active and Inactive, and the implications to agency personnel if the item is Inactive.
